Intro

Message from Rabbi Ruberg

Now more than ever, our world is divided. The Jewish tradition teaches that the destruction of Jerusalem was a direct result of  these divisions and the hatred borne out of spite for others. Therefore this year in the spirit of Jewish unity, we at NCJC will be observing  The 9th of Av not only in our synagogue building, but also together with other Jews from neighboring synagogues in Rockland County on Sunday morning, July 22nd at 9:00am at Montebello Jewish Center.  On this day, let us show that we can come together as a community in the spirit of Jewish unity.   Also please note that this year the observance will take place on the 10th of Av since the 9th of Av falls on Shabbat.

WhatIsTishaBAv

What is Tisha B'Av?

Tisha B'Av, the ninth of the month of Av, is a day of mourning when we remember the destruction of both Temples that once stood in Jerusalem as well as a number of other tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people over the course of history.

WhatWeCanDO

What can we DO to acknowledge this day?

On Tisha B'Av, we should make an extra special effort to be sure to do acts of kindness - chesed that help make the world a better place. This might include such things as refraining from gossip, being respectful to our loved ones, visiting the sick, perhaps calling up an old friend you have not spoken with in a long time, volunteering for an organization, and attending synagogue to pray for a better world and future for us all.
